A community association is generally a group of like-minded people brought together by a common goal, who form an association to meet that goal. There are several reasons you might wish to join a community association. Here are a few tips on how to do that.
1. Choose an association that deals with something you feel passionate about.
Whether you love animals, sports, or playing bingo, choose something you enjoy doing, and will enjoy giving your time to.
2. Choose an association that holds the same values you do.
Make sure you research the association you are thinking of joining before you join. Just because they say they are there to take care of lost or injured animals doesn’t mean they perform their duties the way you believe they should. Arrange a visit or two, see what is said about them on the internet, ask around and get a feel for their reputation to be sure you will be a good fit.
3. Volunteer before applying for membership.
See if they will let you volunteer a few times to get a feel for what they need versus what you are looking to do. Make sure that, in the end, you are meeting your own objective in being part of the association, and that you can meet their expectations.
4. Check with local news or regulating agencies.
Checking to see if local news, blogs or regulating agencies have any information, good or bad, about the association you are considering joining might help you to decide if it will work for you.
5. Put your best foot forward.
Present yourself as a potential member the same as you would for any job. Could you show them your best self?
There are a lot of great reasons for joining an association.
